Workshop on Process Operation Improvement
About the workshop
This half-day workshop will include both introduction to data analytics and practical exercise using the CanmetENERGY EXPLORE software. The attendees have the opportunity to practice using real data from a recovery boiler operation.
By attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
a) Understand the theory behind modeling of multivariate data
b) Use EXPLORE to model and interpret multivariate data

Who should participate?
The course is intended for researchers and engineers from industry and academia. No prior knowledge of statistics is assumed. Each participant will receive a free EXPLORE licence for 1 month.

Speaker/Session Leader: Mouloud Amazouz and Bruno Poulin

Agenda:
8:30 - 9:00           Introduction to multivariate data analysis and EXPLORE
9:00 - 10:00         Black liquor recovery boiler (BLRB) operation data loading and pre-processing
10:30 – 11:30      Study the BLRB operation efficiency using principal component analysis
11:30 – 11:45      Develop KPI predictive model and soft sensor
11:45 – 12:00      Develop and test a BLRB monitoring and fault detection tool

Limited number of seats available, please register in advance in Level 3 – Salon 6.

Workshop on Heat Recovery Optimization
About the workshop
This half-day workshop will introduce the basics of process integration and pinch analysis. It will also be a unique opportunity to learn and apply CanmetENERGY’s INTEGRATION software to optimize heat recovery in kraft and TMP case studies.
By attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
a) Understand the concepts behind pinch analysis for the efficient use of process heat energy
b) Use INTEGRATION to analyse and optimize hear recovery systems

Who should participate?
The course is intended for engineers and researchers from industry and academia. Each participant will receive a free INTEGRATION licence for 1 month.

Speaker/Session Leader: Philippe Navarri and Bahador Bakhtiari

Agenda:
13:30 - 14:00       Introduction to process integration and pinch analysis using INTEGRATION
14:00 - 15:00       Process heat analysis of a kraft process:
Composite curves, heat recovery potential, sources of inefficiencies
15:30 – 16:15      Heat recovery optimization of the kraft process
16:15 – 17:00      Process heat optimization of a TMP process

Limited number of seats available, please register in advance in Level 3 – Salon 6.
